Volvo is a commercial vehicle company from Sweden. The world Volvo comes from the Latin and can be translated as “I roll”. Volvo was originally founded in 1927 as a manufacturer of automobiles. Nowadays, the Volvo Group produces trucks of the Volvo, Renault, Mack, UD Trucks and Eicher brands, amongst other products.
The company’s head office is located in Gothenburg, Sweden. In 2007, the Volvo Group employed about 100,000 people worldwide.
Since the founding of the Volvo Group, the product range has included trucks (Volvo Trucks, and nowadays Renault Trucks, Mack Trucks, UD Trucks and Eicher Trucks, amongst others). The truck division was the most important in 2007, with a 66% share of sales.
Renault Trucks is one of the biggest truck manufacturers in Europe. Renault Trucks offers all types of commercial vehicles: from light-duty trucks for urban distribution operations to special vehicles and heavy-duty trucks for long-distance goods transport. Volvo and Renault joined the so-called “Club of Four”, which developed trucks together, back in the 1970s.
